Well . . . we’re at 93 days till a wedding takes place. Opinions are slowly BUT surely coming out of the woodworks! I’m going this Friday to be fitted for my wedding dress. This was supposed to be ordered to fit ME . . . however, a few minor details were left out when they told me that the dress HAD to be ordered by January . . . like this-that-and the other is going to cost extra $ on top of what I’ve already paid for the dress . . . Sooooooooooo, the dress they have – doesn’t fit me, it’s gonna have to be altered just a bit.
Jonathan had to take Duke and Tyson to the vet Monday morning. Tyson had a limp for a couple of days and what we thought was a toenail injury . . . turned out to be a sprained knee! Yeah, an IV, sedation and MRI later . . . it’s not broke-just sprained! Duke has bad allergies so his visit was a little obvious – sneezing his head off, eyes were long and pitiful. They were both sent home with pills that take them on a trip to la-la land, especially Tyson!
My brother left for the Marine’s, Monday. He’ll do 13 weeks of boot camp at Parris Island, and then will attend the Marine Corps Recruit Training Emblem Ceremony – this is when they consider you to have earned the right to be called a United States Marine. Jonathan’s cousin is a Sniper and to hear his stories . . . some are amazing, and some are hilarious. I really hope that my brother pushes himself and will take this and run with it –he can do anything when he puts his mind to it. This will be an awesome accomplishment for him!

A little about me and the boys
Jonathan and I have been friends for the past 7 years! My friend Lisa and I had been out with some of our guy friends, mud riding on 4-wheelers at Nioda earlier in the day. We left around lunch and was going to meet back up with all them after they were done riding. We ended up meeting them at the car wash in Warrior. Jonathan had met up with the guys after we left earlier that day and did some riding with ‘em. He started hanging around with all of us and we became friends. We were all pretty close – good group of guys and they were a lot of fun to be around! We loved mud riding on the 4-wheelers and it was the start of the season so every weekend we were riding! We all became great friends and Lisa ended up marrying on of them (Tim) – they’ve been married ever since!
On January 21, 2008 – Jonathan proposed to me. On February 15, 2008 we closed on our first new home together! Talk about excited! We moved that weekend – ran into some small issues – had no hot water the first night, refrigerator wouldn’t fit in the opening provided for it, dishwasher wasn’t hooked up to the water line (figured that one out AFTER I ran it), the clothes organizer came out of the wall and fell in the floor WHILE Jonathan’s jeans were hanging from it (which means it ripped out of the sheet rock!), had a bed frame fall on my head – knock me out – bust my head open – had to take two more days off work! Anyways, we got thru it and managed to get settled in.
A couple of weeks later, Jonathan and I had a big scare. I had to get a tetanus shot in my hip after my head injury with the bed frame, a couple of days later I had a huge knot pop up around my ovaries. I made an appointment with my doctor and she immediately sent me over for test and scans. My doctors thought I had ovarian cancer. I went thru several, very painful test, and had the support of very close friends and family. They’ve had reason before to watch things like this with me for other reasons but nothing had ever come of it – tests were always negative. My cousin, Meagan was 17 when she went into surgery to have her shattered nose fixed from a softball mishap. It was after coming out of surgery that they discovered and diagnosed her with cervical cancer (she fought it; she’s now 20 and pregnant with her and her husbands first baby – a little girl). Nothing like this runs in our family, so it could happen to any female regardless of genetics! I was 2 days away from being admitted into surgery when a last minute test result came back clear. It was unbelievable! It turned out to be a non-cancerous cyst (that we keep a close watch on), Thank God!
In June, Jonathan and I got our first dog, a black lab named Tyson! He was 12 weeks old the day we got him. That was also the day our brand new house almost caught fire! The power had been turned off so they could hook power up to the new house being built beside us, after power was turned back on; it sent a charge thru the wires of our doorbell and foyer lights and caught them on fire inside the wall. Jonathan was on his way home from work and I knew I kept smelling something funny. I called and told him what was going on, so he turned around and called our builder. The builder comes walking in and says that our doorbell is making a “humming” sound, so he removes the cover of the doorbell and smoke comes bellowing out! There was a small fire going on in the hole! Burned all those wires up! Finally, 3 hours late on leaving our house, we head to Georgia to pick up Tyson!
On July 13th (the day before my b’day) Tyson started acting real weird . . . I had a bad feeling about it and noticed his symptoms were similar to those of Parvo, however to my knowledge he was up-to-date on all his shots. Jonathan’s step-sister, Kayla (or K.C.), works at Mercy Animal Hospital in Gardendale as a vet tech, so I called her, she called Dr. Trammel, and on our way to the vet we were! Dr. Trammel did a Parvo test on him and it immediately showed he was positive for Parvo.
*F.Y.I. Parvo is a very deadly disease that puppies get if they haven’t been properly vaccinated! IF caught early enough, it’s treatable and most puppies have a 90% survival rate.
KC held him while Dr. Trammel shaved his leg and started an IV (I stood there crying of course). He stayed in an isolation room there at the vet for a week and a half, and of course he got worse before he got better and that was hard to watch. He weighed 42lbs when we brought him home from Georgia, got down to 27lbs while he was sick with Parvo, and now weighs in at 85lbs. We’re figuring that he only received 1 round of vaccinations when we bought him, and then when I took him for what I thought was his last set – was really only his 2nd round of vaccinations. Puppies should receive at least 3 sometimes even 4, before their immune systems are strong enough to fight it off. The good news was that Parvo is like us having chicken-pox, once they get it-you don’t get it again. We had to CLOROX our brand new sod yard, Clorox the inside of the house, trash all of his things – toys, blankets, anything like that, Clorox his crate . . . it was crazy! Dr. Trammel also informed us that Parvo can live up to a year so no new puppies in the house or yard for a year! I love Dr. Trammel – she’s awesome! I was able to visit Tyson everyday after work and there were some days that she stood in the isolation room with me and cried cause he looked that bad but she always reassured me that he was gonna pull thru! And he did! He’s now 9months old; still has some complications from having Parvo, but Dr. Trammel said that’s normal up to a year after getting thru it.
In September we adopted Duke, our chocolate lab. Someone turned him in at Mercy. He’s an awesome dog – we were very lucky to adopt him! An elderly couple brought him in – not real sure what his story was, they just turned him over and left. He’s 5 years old, weighs in at 130lbs! Him and Tyson get along so well. Tyson has really brought out the playful side of Duke. And believe me when 130lbs of dog starts to play with 85lbs of puppy . . . it’s all entertainment! Duke’s not quite as fast as Tyson, but Tyson isn’t as smart as Duke! HaHaHa Tyson still has a lot to learn!
I coach Cheerleading during the late summer, early fall season. Lisa, (the one that married Tim) coaches with me. Her oldest daughter, Abbi, is on our squad. This was our 2nd season to coach the youth league at Morris Ballpark. I love doing it! I never cheered in high school, but I’ve been around it all my life. My aunt Leslie taught me everything she could, she always wanted me to try out in high school but I was to shy to do it (one regret). My aunt has 4 daughters of her own now – all 4 have cheered from the time they could walk. Meagan is one of her daughters; she was captain at Pinson, cheered for High Fly and went on to teach there, also opened her own Cheernastics. Jennifer (one of Meagan’s sisters), is now captain at Pinson and also cheers for High Fly.
It’s an experience teaching these younger ones – I’ve learned a lot from each of them. We’ve won first place in the South-Eastern Youth Cheerleading Association competition for the past two years. What an experience! I feel privileged to be able to work with these kids and be back there with them, going over the routine and cheers and seeing the adrenal rush that they have, and hearing the silly things they say because they’re that excited. You don’t realize how important it is to give these kids self-confidence, so they know to believe in themselves and know that THEY CAN DO IT!
So, now Jonathan and I are down to 108 days until we are married! We’re having a small beach wedding in Gulf Shores, during sunset. We’re both very excited! We decided that it would be a better idea to have a Reception once we return instead of doing a bunch of showers and inviting a bunch of people to the ceremony. Guests would have to worry with travel and lodging and considering we’re in somewhat of a recession – we’re not gonna ask that of people! I’m so excited!
